Nanda HomeThe Play Writing Festival is a biannual(ish) one act play festival where original (i.e. unpublished) plays of less than one hour, are adjudicated in written form and the six or so short listed are given a performance before the final adjudication. It covers both one act plays, greater than twenty minutes performance and sketches, less than ten minutes. It has been running since 1977.
Its objectives are both to encourage playwrights by promoting their efforts and publicizing their work, and to encourage local drama groups to perform original plays.
The Elspeth Whitaker Trophy is awarded for the best play, to be held until the next competition.
